1 CAMP COPNECONIC OVERNIGHT FIELD TRIP
October 29-31, 2014

2 Cost of the Trip The total cost of camp is $150.00.
The cost covers three days at camp, all food and snacks and transportation to and from camp. Payment plan arrangements can be made. Please make checks payable to: COUNTRY OAKS ELEMENTARY

3 How are the students transported to and from camp?
All students are required to travel to and from Camp Copneconic via Huron Valley School bus unless they are riding with their parents. We will be leaving Country Oaks promptly at 9:15. We are asking all students to arrive at school at 8:40 a.m. We will arrive back at Country Oaks at 1:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Please make arrangements to pick up your child at this time. All baggage and bedding will be transported in chaperone vehicles.

4 Camp Itinerary

5 Do the students need to bring food?
The cost of the field trip includes all meals and snacks. Parents of students with dietary needs can call the Camp Copneconic kitchen if special arrangements are needed. There is always a vegetarian option served with every meal. We are asking all students to bring a labeled water bottle.

6 What if my child needs medication while at camp?
If there is a student who will be taking ANY medication during their time at camp, a Request for Dispensing Medication form needs to be filled out and returned. We are talking about all medication, including epi-pens, inhalers, aspirin, allergy or sinus, day or night. No matter what the medication is, a doctor’s note is needed before anybody can give your student the medication. A trained adult will be in charge of the medicine while at camp.

7 What are the sleeping arrangements?
All students will be staying in heated cabins with bathroom and private shower facilities. Each cabin will have at least two chaperones per night. All cabins are separated by boys and girls. Students are required to be in the cabins at 8:45 each evening. Students will never be alone in a cabin.

8 CAMP RULES While at Camp Copneconic all Country Oaks Elementary and classroom rules apply. In addition we would like students to follow the additional rules listed below to ensure a safe camp experience: Always listen to the adult(s) in charge. Always ask permission to go somewhere. You must be with a partner at all times. No going near the water unless accompanied by an adult. Once you are in the cabin for the night, you may not leave. No electronics are permitted at camp. If a student is caught breaking one of these rules, they will be asked to leave camp. A parent will need to pick them up if this happens.

9 Does my child have to spend the night?
No child will be required to spend the night. You may pick up your child in the evening and return them to camp in the morning. The cost of the trip is still $

10 Camp Activities Zip Line – Creek Freak-Safely harnessed, participants will take an exhilarating zip line ride across camp’s deep Swartz Creek ravine! Participants will then come to a stop on the other side of the creek and make the hike back to the top of the hill.. Bullseye Bonanza-From Ancient Asia to Medieval Europe and Early America the bow was a vital part of life. Copneconic’s version sees archers learn the basics of the sport, receive a brief lesson and then partake in some friendly competition. Disc Golf-Students will head out to the 9-hole course and break into small groups to play a few rounds of this popular sport. Instructors will demonstrate rules, proper throwing technique, and course safety. Campers elect to keep score if they wish. Dreamcatchers -A long-standing Native American tradition, students will learn the history of the dreamcatcher, and its use in Native American culture. After a short story and instruction, students will craft their own dreamcatcher to bring home. Indoor Initiatives- Utilizing our portable initiatives, students will solve tough challenges such as ‘Electric Maze’, ‘Tanks & Commanders’, and ‘Human Jump Rope’ through communication and teamwork. Amazing Invertebrates-Students enjoy hands on experiences with boneless creatures! We will look at habitats like logs, puddles and anthills. Unique specimens like a hissing cockroach, giant millipede and tarantula will be studied. Ecomania-Students learn about ecosystems in a fun and interactive way! Basic concepts of food chain, food web and habitat are explored through meaningful games. The class builds up to The Game of Life in which each student becomes an animal and must survive in the wild. In Cold Blood-Reptiles, Amphibians and Fish! Students will get a hands-on experience with the live creatures. Instructors will discuss characteristics of toads, frogs, snakes, turtles and a variety of lizards. Students will discuss what makes them similar and what makes them different. Lost-The group’s plane has just crashed landed leaving students stranded in the woods. They are taught the basics of survival with a lesson on map and compass work, shelter building and fire building. Groups must then navigate from checkpoint to checkpoint completing a task at each. Each small group starts with 15 survival points that they must keep in order to survive. Eggbert-Students collaborate in small teams to design a prototype landing craft for Eggbert (a raw egg). Groups then market their idea and design to a camp ‘NASA’ official and the model is constructed by the students. Models are tested by subjecting Eggbert and its landing craft to a free-fall back to Earth.

11 EVENING ACTIVITIES Campfire-The highlight of camp for many students, campers will experience more than just a fire. Instructors will lead fun and crazy camp songs, stories, cheers, skits and more around the campfire. A night at campfire will not soon be forgotten. Night Hike-Participants explore nature at sundown through interactive games and activities. Students will experience sights and sounds unique to nighttime, opening a new avenue of exploration. Copneconic Disco Fever-This is a chance for students to burn off energy. A good mix of school appropriate songs allows the students to relax and interact as they dance the night away. Minute to Win It -3 – 2 – 1! Campers will race against time to complete the fun and famous challenges of Minute-to-Win-It. They’ll be competing for points for their team as well as individual prizes such as ‘Get out of Hopper Free’ cards, Extra Dessert, or Copneconic Instructor Trading Cards!
