President’s Message By Renae Paulson, RN April 4, 2010 Dear RNS Members and Friends, Spring marks the season of new beginnings. April is Gardening month and the flowers are blooming, the weather is warming up encouraging us to get out and do some stuff outdoors, and of course, it is the time to began spring cleaning! But before you get ahead of yourself, you might want to take a look at where you are at the end of the 1st quarter of 2010 and assess your progress in reaching your goals. Getting clarity on that will prepare the way for you to ‘clean out’ or ‘clear the way’ for achieving your goals and pushing through to the next level of your desired achievement. Studies show that more gets done by those who are organized. Putting ourselves in order frees us up to celebrate and serve others. The month of April provides many opportunities to get involved with National Autism, Alcohol Awareness, Child Abuse Prevention, Donate Live, OT, and National Humor Month that began in 1976. No matter what your political views are, we are witnessing the beginning of huge changes in the HealthCare arena. If you are so inclined, there is opportunity to get involved and be part of grass root efforts to shape the administration process of providing treatment and care to the patient that will allow them access to all available treatment without interruption. I challenge each of us to “get in the game” and make a difference! I believe that each life we touch is better because we are passionate about that which we believe is right. At our meeting last month I was made aware that there is a conflict between the CMSA and RNS group meeting schedule between this month. A couple of years ago we began to go dark in June to accommodate CMSA in an effort to eliminate the need for our members to choose one meeting over the other. At the RNS April 22nd meeting we will be honoring the RNS award recipients so this is a very unfortunate situation. I hope that you will try to do your best to come out and support the awardees. Each recipient will share with us about their work and services. I would like to thank our March speaker, Dr. Marcel Ponton, PhD for his presentation on Stress. He and his group, Persona, has been so helpful in the treatment of our patients. “Thank you” to the following vendors for their continuing generosity. Francine Aron of Casa Colina, Continuity Care home Nurses, Susan Gomez of Care Meridian, Patricia Klein of Northridge Hospital, Cindy Dixon of Special Care Nursing, and Jamie Siner from CNS. Stay well and I hope to see you at the RNS meeting on April 22, 2010. Renae Paulson, RN
