Incorporated Multimedia Principles: Multimedia Principle: “People learn better from words and pictures than from words alone” (Mayer, 2011, p. 99). Still photos are included which correspond to the narrative and associated dates on the screen to provide a picture of the time period. Personalization Principle: “People learn better from multimedia lessons when words are in conversational style rather than formal style” (Mayer, 2011, p. 99). The narration includes the reading of journal entries which are conversational in style. Voice Principle: “People learn better when the narration in multimedia lessons is spoken in a friendly human voice rather than a machine voice” (Mayer, 2011, p. 99). I tried to sound friendly in my recording Modality Principle: “presenting some information in visual mode and other information in auditory mode can expand effective working memory capacity and so reduce the effects of an excessive cognitive load” (Low & Sweller, 2005, p. 147). The minimal use of images allows users to concentrate on the spoken word of the narration. Associated pictures are designed to connect the listener to the story.
