Purpose The U.S. EPA’s Office of Water is announcing the 3 rd annual Campus RainWorks Challenge for university students. Student team will collaborate with a faculty advisor to design an innovative green infrastructure project for a location on their campus. For our green infrastructure project we choose to create a retention pond on Southeastern’s campus.

Objective To design and construct a retention pond on Campus using run-off water from Washington and Livingston Residential Halls. For environmental, economical, and educational purposes. Reflect extensive consultation with Southeastern planning department to assess project feasibility.

Procedure Meetings with faculty members (Mr. Ken Howe & Carlos Doolittle). Identify location for retention pond. Take survey of the area. Establish water sources (Washington & Livingston Residential Halls). Storage tank size and material.

Rain Water Run-off Calculations Average annual Rainfall for location: 62.72” Total surface area of rain water collection: 13,386SQ.FT. Annual rain water run-off: 523,368 gallons.

Retention Pond Length: 160’ Width: 140’ Depth: 5’ Total volume: 840,000 gallons Will include vegetation

Storage Tanks We will be using two 5100 gallon tanks per Residence Hall. Total storage volume is 20,400 gallons.
