Based on data collected, graph and calculate average speed using distance and time. WARM-UP Student Objective Tell me about the motion of the object for each part of the graph. *See next slide

Speed Graph Time A Steady, fast, away B Speeding up, away C Stead, medium, away D Stopped E Steady, medium, closer

3. The price of a certain CD varied over a period of time. It started high and remained the same for a period of time. Then it had a steady decrease until it reached an all time low, where it stayed the same for a period of time. In the end, the stock rose fast to a moderate price, where it remained for the remaining time. 2. The post office charges $.41 for any mail up to an ounce in weight. After that the charge is $.23 for each additional ounce or part of an ounce. For instance, if it weights 1.1 ounces or 1.9 ounces, it will cost the same, $.64. 1. Jeffery left his home headed toward the school. He started out at a steady moderate pace until he got to a red light. While stopped at the light, he realized that he had forgotten his math homework. He turned around and headed back home at a faster pace. Then he drove to school at a fast pace without stopping on the way. Circle the graph that best matches each scenario below.

How would you describe the motion of these cars? Are they accelerating, decelerating, or moving at a constant speed? Which distance-time graph represents each car?

- Describing and Measuring Motion Calculating Speed If you know the distance an object travels in a certain amount of time, you can calculate the speed of the object. Speed = distance ÷ time

Calculate the speed of each animal after one minute (60 sec.) has elapsed. RabbitSpeed = D/T Speed = 1000m / 60sec Speed is _______ TortoiseSpeed = D/T Speed = ______m / 60sec Speed is _______ CheetahSpeed = D/T Speed = ______m / ____sec Speed is _______ 4 200060 16.67 m/s 0.07 m/s 33.33 m/s

Conclusion: Which animal is the has the fastest speed? Animal A. 10 miles in 2 hours B. 50 miles in 25 hours C. 15 miles in 5 hours
