7.4 – Sampling Distribution Statistic: a numerical descriptive measure of a sample Parameter: a numerical descriptive measure of a population.
2
Commonly Used… Measure Mean Variance Standard Deviation Proportion Statistic x̅ s 2 s p̂ Parameter µ ơ 2 ơ p
3
Inferences Use samples (statistics) to make inferences about population (parameters) Types of Inferences: 1.Estimation: estimate value of population 2.Testing: formulate a decision about the value of population 3.Regression: predictions or forecasts about value of a statistical variable.
4
Sampling Distribution Probability distribution of a sample statistic based on all possible simple random samples of the same size from the same population. You can use a frequency table and a histogram to show a sampling distribution.
5
Guided Exercise #9 SKIP
6
Checkpoint Compute the probability of “standardized events” Find a z score from a given normal probability (inverse normal) Use the inverse normal to solve guarantee problems

Homework Read Pages 280-285 – Take notes on what we have not covered Do Problems – Page 285 (1-9) ALL Check odds in back of book Read and preload 7.5 information – Notes/vocab
