In North America, up to 22 percent of total port volume is empty containers. The Port of Jersey has 100,000 empty containers sitting in storage – worth nearly $200 million. Congested roadways cost $78 billion annually in the form of 4.2 billion lost hours and 2.9 billion gallons of wasted gas. $11.5B worth of produce is wasted in India because of outdated post- harvest infrastructure

© 2010 IBM Corporation IBM Academic Initiative: building skills for a smarter planet 17 New Cloud Offering IBM Academic Skills Cloud –IBM is announcing an Academic Skills Cloud project to dynamically deliver provisioned virtual server images of some of it’s leading software for use by College/University Faculty to more easily teach IT related skills. –Academic Skills Cloud is designed to augment and enhance software delivery capabilities. Unlike traditional environments, member faculty will be able to log on to IBM Cloud and get access to customizable virtual machines in minutes. –With this new pilot program, Academic Initiative is offering choices to deploy workloads that will assist faculty in teaching with IBM software with greater efficiency, productivity and control to benefit students. –This new environment provides compute and storage as a service, IBM Rational Software Delivery Services, Rational, WebSphere and Information Management software to help speed the delivery of software for teaching purposes.
