A DDING AND SUBTRACTING P OSITIVE AND N EGATIVE I NTEGERS By: Ren Eversole

C OURSE O BJECTIVES After this lesson, children should be able to: Properly combine Positive and Negative Integers Use integers to represent real-life situations; TEKS Objectives (From §111.22. ):111.22 (2) Number, operation, and quantitative reasoning. The student adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides to solve problems and justify solutions. The student is expected to: (A) compare and order non-negative rational numbers; (B) use addition and subtraction to solve problems involving fractions and decimals; (C) use integers to represent real-life situations

C LASS D ISCUSSION Ask if any students know why positive and negative numbers are useful. Allow students to share if they understand positive or negative numbers. Such as buying lunch or burrowing money from one another. Go over how a number line can be read and is useful for understanding positive and negative numbers.

C LASS A CTIVITY Students will pair up and play a game. The students will be given an amount of fake money and allowed to purchase things that they may want. Students will be allowed to use their iPad or computer to find things that they would like to purchase. Students will have to keep track of how much money they have spent. Finally, the groups will present in front of the class
