2. Direct Speech  The exact words spoken must be put inside “speech marks”.  The first spoken word must have a capital letter.  Use a comma before opening speech marks.  Punctuate before closing speech marks.

3. I’ve hurt my knee. The boy complained, “I’ve hurt my knee.”

4. The doctor asked, “Can you take a deep breath?” Can you take a deep breath?

5. The woman remarked, “I like this top!” I like this top!
