2 Geology Is the study of the Earth, and the things that make it up.
04/15/10 SeeS / Geology

3 Structure of Earth Much of planet is actually liquid, because it is so hot inside. The outside (the surface) is cool and is solid rock. We have learned that the Earth’s surface floats on the liquid rock below. Lithosphere Crust Mantle Core 04/15/10 SeeS / Geology

4 Plate Tectonics We have found that the surface of the Earth is made of ‘plates’ that float on the liquid mantel. The Plates of rock that make up our planet’s surface are kind of like lily pads on a pond. Except they cover the whole thing. The Plates can bump together or scrape each other and cause Earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis. 04/15/10 SeeS / Geology

5 Volcanoes Volcanoes are an opening in the crust to the Mantle below.
Magma (melted rock underground) can come out of this opening onto the surface where it will be lava (melted rock above ground). Volcanoes can release a lot of energy. Ash Cloud Crater 1.
