8 A New Foreign Policy A new policy was needed to protect our interests in Latin America Monroe Doctrine: US foreign policy in Latin America 4 Main Parts –US would stay out of European Affairs –US would not interfere with existing European colonization in the Western Hemisphere –US would not allow further colonization in the Western Hemisphere –Any European attempt to control any nation in the Western Hemisphere would be seen as a hostile action towards the US 10/24/2015 8
