You can check you mark on CMM Today – first block - we will discuss whether or not WW2 could have been prevented, we will look at Canada’s early contribution for WW2 block two – we will look at the major battles of WW2 and their significance to Canada. September 1, 1939 – Germany invaded Poland and WWII began Used blitzkrieg tactics to quickly subdue Poland Luftwaffe (German air force) airplanes attacked key targets Wehrmacht attacked next using panzers (tanks) & motorized infantry (foot soldiers) WWII BEGINS

September 3, 1939 – Britain & France declared war on Germany & Germany’s allies Canadian politicians held a special session of parliament to decide whether or not to enter the war Government decided to enter the war but only if the Canadian government agreed conscription would not occur September 10, 1939 – Canada declared war on Germany & Germany’s allies

The Phony War Britain & France thought Hitler would attack western Europe after Poland so they stationed troops on the French- German border But, nothing happened in the west b/tw Sept 1939 & April 1940 This period was called the Phony War THE WAR IN WESTERN EUROPE
