6 Initial Certificate Pre-K through Age 21 (Type 10)  Must renew every 4 fiscal years  Wait until July 1 to claim if at all possible

7 Application and Certification Student portal – left side menu (student profile) –Only to be used by US citizens –Non-citizens have a different process –May grads turn in Dec –August grads turn in May Get Illinois certification when you graduate Provides a permanent record of being certified in Illinois – very useful should you move in the future

8 Application Process Complete application and return to Council Provide complete mailing address –Notification of endorsements will be sent to this address Put month/year you plan to complete ALL requirements Degree (bachelor’s/master’s) E-mail/cell phone

9 Non-Citizen Application Process Complete ISBE application and turn in to Council After all requirements are met we’ll sign/stamp application and return w/Notice of Intent to candidate Present documents to an ROE Show proof of legal status Pay fees

10 Requirements for Certification Application must be submitted to Council Appropriate test scores Student teaching time report (done online) –Be sure it is complete, thorough, and accurate –ONLY record we have Letter of recommendation from depart Grades/Degree

11 New ISBE Rules Effective February 1, 2012 –No professional education or content course with a grade lower than a ‘C’ can be used toward certification, endorsement, or approval –No professional education or content course taken for CR/NC can be used toward certification, endorsement or approval

12 Approval/Endorsements Early Childhood Special Ed Approval needed for pre-K Can obtain endorsements to teach courses outside of Special Education K-4 5-8 6-12

13 Testing www.icts.nesinc.com LBS I Special Education General Curriculum –Take Fall 2010 or Spring 2011 Allow for a fall-back date APT Grades K-12 –Wait until Spring 2011

14 Things To Know If you change your name, change it with the appropriate campus office and notify the Council If you move, change your address in the Enterprise system (registration system). Certification requirements are subject to change without notice
