Parts of a cell Chapter 1
2
Table of Contents Add the following under Science Process Skills to your table of contents: Parts of a cell-----------------pg you start on ***Then turn to that page….it MUST be a clean page! Label that page PARTS OF A CELL at the top~~
3
Vocabulary Cut the vocabulary words and definitions out of your workbook on page 2 and paste into your Science Journal
4
Cell Theory Cut out Cell Theory graphic organizer on page 3 of your workbook and paste below the vocabulary words.
5
Parts of a cell: Paste in the parts of a cell handout
6
Parts of the cell Nucleus- Directs what happens in a cell. Holds DNA (chromosomes) Cell Membrane- Thin cover wrapped around all cells. Lets in food, water and gases. Lets wastes leave Cytoplasm- Jelly like substance between the nucleus and cell membrane. All other organelles float in this
7
Parts of a Cell
8
Parts of a cell Mitochondria- large and peanut shaped. “power plant” of the cell. Creates energy for the cell Vacuoles- sacs filled with liquid. They hold water, food and wastes. Animal cells- many small vacuoles Plant cells- one large Ribosomes- make proteins which help chemical reactions occur. Very Tiny.

Parts of a Cell
10
Parts of a cell Golgi apparatus- takes in proteins and changes them so they are ready to leave the cell Endoplasmic Reticulum(ER)- Group of membranes and tubes that form tunnels. This is how material moves through the cell. 2 types- rough and smooth Cell Wall- Only in plant cells. Stiff outer layer around the cell membrane. Gives support and protection

Parts of a Cell
12
Parts of a cell Chloroplasts- only in plant cells. Use energy from sunlight to make food. Lysosomes- small and round. Help break down food and old cell parts Can be found in SOME plant cells Mostly found in animal cells
