Learning Outcomes By the end of the lesson: All pupils will be able to describe a similarity or difference between school in England and Mozambique Most pupils will be able to explain a problem for children in Mozambique relating to education Some pupils will be able to justify a solution to this problem

Starter: What’s the point? What are the reasons for going to school? What are the reasons that some people don’t go to school? Come up with as many reasons as you can in 5 mins!

Solve the Problem! “I have to stay at home to take care of my younger brothers and sisters” “My family thinks education is a waste of time” “I have to help my father look after the animals” “The teachers don’t give me any attention. They only help the boys” Task: Imagine you work for UNICEF. How would you make it easier for one of these girls to go to school? In pairs, come up with 5 things you would do and explain why they would help.
