1. AIM Getting ready to launch!

2. WHICH STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE?  Students who are economically disadvantaged  Who are below proficient- first those on the bubble and then moving down to basic and below basic.  We can only serve students who don’t meet this criteria after we serve all of the others.

3. FOCUS  Raise the number of AIM students reading at/above grade level in all grades.  Have an updated needs assessment on all AIM students.  Use the needs assessment to tailor instruction for AIM students.  Ensure that afterschool feels different than regular school.

4. FOCUS CONT.  Focus on instruction in building the fundamentals in math- addition-subtraction- multiplication- division, etc  Increase opportunities for parental involvement  Provide an engaging program to keep students participating and improving academically, socially, physically, mentally.

6. AREN’T WE MEETING NEEDS ALREADY? We cannot show that what we are doing is improving student scores. We need to be able to prove it! Everyone is involved in this process!

7. WHAT WE CAN’T DO  Make it the same thing as regular day  Not be prepared  Think the job is just an extension of what you do all day  Come to work tired and expect to just pick up a paycheck  Expect the children to not be tired, hungry, and a bit wound up.  Not invite “Problem” children.

WHAT WE HAVE TO DO  Review the needs of the kids you work with  Be prepared during homework help to use the time the best way possible.  During instruction always be ready and prepared and aware of what your kids need.  One thing to do a fun activity. Another thing to make it relevant to what your kids need to learn!

10. PROGRAM SCHEDULE  7:00- 7:30- Morning AIM program-  Requirements  Morning AIM staff have to be strategically providing instruction to students based on student needs. Keep track of what is done, send in attendance of morning students on Friday of each week as well as a summary of what skills were worked on.  Morning skill improvement needs to be tracked and shown.

11. PROGRAM SCHEDULE AFTERNOON  3:00-5:30  3:00-3:10- Snack  3:10-4:20- Instruction Time  4:20-5:30- Homework help  5:30 parent pick up- All sites should be doing parent pick up where parents wait outside and then staff dismiss like the end of the regular day.

12. AFTERNOON SCHEDULE  Program is offered a minimum of 12 hours a week  After the third time late or for excessive late time payments of $5 are due from parents for every five minutes they are late.* *That will be in the parent contract.

14.  Works as a lead teacher  Duties include- teaching a group daily, working with staff coordination, sending in daily attendance by Friday each week, working as a go-between between site staff and project coordinator as needed, working with parents, and classroom teachers, coordinating needs assessment efforts.  2 hours coordination time a week- $24 an hour.

15.  Provides instruction and homework help to students. Reviews needs assessment information for each student and ensures instruction is related to student need, reviews unit plans, attends staff meetings and family events, etc.  $20 an hour

16.  Schedule will be made and will be based on student numbers. Schedules will not be made by site coordinators they will be made centrally and sent out to coordinators.  Subs can be requested locally to cover staff but any direct change to the schedule needs to be approved.  Most staff will be working less than they want to start out.

17. It should look and feel very different that what might occur in a regular classroom on a regular school day. It must include:  Background knowledge that goes deep  Science, Math, Reading Language Arts, Social Studies and other core concepts and skills woven throughout.  Hands in and minds on activities that are interactive, fun, and challenging.  Staff get an hour for reading the unit- time attending the staff meeting for planning.

18.  One staff member per site will purchase supplies for the entire site.  That staff member gets one hour of time reimbursed as well as the cost of the materials. Save receipts!  Supplies will be purchased weekly, prior to lesson.

19. First full day of AIM will be September 28 th !
