Objective Create a compact, portable steam power plant trainer that will aid in the understanding of the Rankine cycle and automated system control 3 Goals Achieve fully automated system control Rolling frame for ease of transport ▫Dimensions of 4x2x3.5 feet Deliver the product complete with multiple lab experiments Produce an aesthetically pleasing product
4
Purpose Many students find difficulty understanding thermodynamics without being able to apply theory to real world application Steam power plants account for roughly 78% of the world’s electricity Students will learn the automated control system and will obtain a working knowledge of how to check transducer readings 4
5
Lab Experiments Plot power curve ▫Watts vs. Flow rate ▫Watts vs. % Valve Calculate cooling tower efficiency Calculate condenser efficiency 5

Online Survey Using Survey Monkey ▫110 respondents ▫10 questions Questions: 1.What is your age? 2.What type of engineering degree do you have? 3.What is the highest level of school or degree you have completed? 4.Did you take thermodynamics? 5.If so, did it require a lab section? 6.Did your thermodynamics class/lab include steam power plant training station? 7.Did you find the training equipment useful? 8. If the training equipment was not useful, why? 9. If you did not have training equipment, would you have liked to have one? Would it have been beneficial? 10. What is your alma mater? 7
