32
Demand for Business Analysis Professional Online Job Market Source: Info-Tech Research, April 17, 2006
33
A Few Other Findings The marketplace is still confused about the role of the Business Analysis Professional Postings include IIBA BA plus financial BA Tend to look for Subject Matter Experts or project management knowledge Don’t need any other project team member because the BA can do it all – project manage, develop, test, design On the other hand, industry salary surveys or job postings segment the role into systems analyst, business systems analyst, etc. Companies still uncertain about the value of the BA resource – they are uncertain what the market rate is for qualified BAs
34
Business Analysis Body of Knowledge Knowledge Areas Enterprise Analysis Requirements Planning & Management Requirements Elicitation Requirements Analysis Requirements Communications Solution Assessment & Validation Fundamentals Most job postings focus on 5/6 KN plus other stuff – testing, PM, SME, development EA – a lot of folks do it but most organizations don’t hire for it
35
Conclusions Remember – you are not in it for the money… But if you were – and you were considering moving to the US – or lived there already Working in the Mid-Atlantic (NJ, DC, MD, CT) seems to be the best options Or if you don’t like the East coast OK, IL, OR or CA are other options But if Canada is your home – or have decided to locate based on your experiences at this conference You can locate almost anywhere and be similarly compensated Calgary offers the best salaries but you may have to live in a stable Or the Yukon, if you like the Great Outdoors!
36
Conclusions There are lots of options for someone who likes to travel Over 77% of the US respondents made over $70k But only 28% of Canadian BAs make more than $70k (remember: quality of life…) And don’t forget… Demand for the role continues to grow and as the role becomes further defined, the compensation will improve
