OBJECTIVES: to learn the role and peculiarities of testing in teaching and learning process to compare the levels of the Cambridge exam and define their common characteristics and their distinctions to design tests in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, for school Olympiads.

TASKS: -to learn the opinion of the students of our lyceum on the on the level of difficulty of testing in reading, writing, listening and speaking -to represent the result of the poll by the table -to analyze different types of tests and their tasks -to compare the levels of the Cambridge exam and define their common characteristics and their distinctions, -design tests in listening, speaking, reading, and writing for Olympiads.

TYPES OF TESTS: A proficiency test - it measures an overall ability in a language. An achievement test - it tests the students' knowledge of the material that has been taught. A diagnostic test - it highlights the strong and weak points that a learner may have in a particular area. A prognostic test – it attempts to predict how a student will perform on a course.

The levels of Cambridge exam The Key English Test (KET) The Preliminary English Test (PET) The First Certificate in English (FCE) The Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) The Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)

Comparison of the levels of Cambridge exam All(5) levels of the Cambridge exam test listening, reading and writing speaking. All of them lead to a Cambridge certificate Students who once have passed the Cambridge examinations, they have the qualification for life.

CONCLUSION Testing and evaluating pupils’ achievements in language teaching and learning is of great importance because tests are extremely motivating and give students a sense of progress. In our country testing got a wide usage due to the close co- operation Ukraine with the USA, Great Britain and other European countries.
