Adverbs 1. Describe the manner of an action verb (they way it is done) Examples: We speak English _______________. You are talking _______________________. He walks ______________________. Adverbs 2. Tell the place / location (Where?) Note: just one word Examples – which words tell the location?: She is studying upstairs. It is getting cooler outside. Your book is there on the table. Here are your keys. There are insects everywhere in the jungle.

Adverbs 3. Qualify / quantify adjectives (how much? To what degree?) Examples: She is ____________________ smart. He is _____________________ hardworking. Your friend seems ___________________ angry. You look ____________________ marvelous today. I feel __________________________ wonderful.

Adverbs 4. Tell frequency (how often?) Also: daily, monthly, yearly, once, twice, commonly, regularly, etc. 0% -- Never 1 – 10% -- Rarely10 – 25% -- Seldom25 – 75 % -- Sometimes 90 – 99 % -- Usually 100 % -- Always 75 – 90% -- Often

Adverbs 5. Tell time (when?) Examples: I have already finished my homework. She hasn’t finished her project yet. I am still working on my test. He came to school late. Have you ever been to San Jose? Others: today, tomorrow, now, yesterday, early, lately, recently, etc.

Adverbs 6. Qualify / quantify other adverbs of manner (To what degree?) Examples: We speak English _________________ well. I don’t like to get up _____________ early in the morning. You are talking _______ fast. He walks ___________ slowly. She studies ____________ hard. My friend drives _______________recklessly. They are working ______________ happily. My pet hamster died ____________ peacefully. He came to school _______ late.
