Project 5 – LENS Part Create the LENS. The LENS utilizes a Revolved Base feature. Sketch a centerline and a closed profile on the Right Plane. Insert a Revolved Base feature. The Revolved Base feature requires an axis of revolution and an angle of revolution. Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – LENS Part Create the LensNeck. The LensNeck houses the BULB base and is connected to the BATTERYPLATE. Use the Extruded Boss/Base feature. The back face of the Revolved Base feature is the Sketch plane. Utilize the Convert Entities Sketch tool to extract the back circular face to the Sketch plane. The new curve develops an On Edge relation. Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – LENS Part The LENS requires a Counterbore hole. Apply the Hole Wizard feature. The Hole Wizard feature assists in creating complex and simple holes. The Hole Wizard Hole type categories are: Counterbore Countersink Hole Tapped PipeTap Legacy (Holes created before SolidWorks 2000). Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – LENS Part Create a Revolved Boss Thin feature. Rotate an open sketched profile around an axis. The sketch profile must be open and cannot cross the axis. A Revolved Boss Thin feature requires: Sketch plane (Right Plane) Sketch profile (Center point arc) Axis of Revolution (Temporary axis) Angle of Rotation (360) Thickness .100in, [2.54] Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – LENS Part Create the sketch for the Revolved Boss Thin feature. Dimension and apply the needed geometric relations and dimensions. Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – LENS Part Apply the Extruded Boss/Base feature tool to create the front LensCover. Utilize the Offset Entities Sketch tool to offset the outside circular edge of the Revolved feature. The Sketch plane for the Extruded Boss feature is the front circular face. Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – LENS Part The Offset Entities Sketch tool requires an Offset Distance and direction. Utilize the Bi-direction option to create a circular sketch in both directions. The extrude direction is away from the Front Plane. Insert needed dimensions. Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – LENS Part Apply the Extruded Boss/Base feature to create the LensShield. Utilize the Convert Entities Sketch tool to extract the inside circular edge of the LensCover and place it on the Front plane. Apply the Transparent Optical property to the LensShield to control the ability for light to pass through the surface. Transparent is an Optical Property found in the Color PropertyManager. Save the part. Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – BULB Part The BULB fits inside the LENS. Create the new part, BULB. The BULB utilizes a solid Revolved Base feature. The solid Revolved Base feature requires a: Sketch plane (Right Plane) Sketch profile (Lines) Axis of Revolution (Centerline) Angle of Rotation (360º) Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard

Project 5 – BULB Part The BULB requires a second solid Revolved feature. The profile utilizes a complex curve called a Spline (Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline or NURB). Draw Splines with control points. Adjust the shape of the curve by dragging the control points. Usually the sketch technique is first relations, then dimensions. Some sketch tools contained relations automatically. Example the rectangle sketch tool contains two horizontal and two vertical relations. Copyright Planchard & Planchard
