1. What is the main function of vitamins and minerals? To regulate body functions 2. What foods are a lot of the vitamins and minerals we need found in? Fruits and Vegetables 3. Because different fruits and vegetables have different vitamins and minerals, how can we ensure that we get all the different vitamins and minerals that we need? Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables

6 How much of our body is water?
About 2/3 or 60-70% ¾ water found in Blood Cells, much in muscles and brain. Fruits and Vegetables about 95% Meat about 75%

7 Why do we need so much water?
Move nutrients through the digestive tract To remove waste products Heat Regulator Coat and lubricate body joints.

8 Water is needed in the body
We would Die in a few days without water. Water acts as a diluter. Without sufficient water, fiber does no good. Fiber absorbs water allowing waste to move freely. Helps Prevents Constipation.

9 How Much is Necessary? 8 Cups a day, or
A good estimate is to take your body weight in pounds and divide that number in half. That gives you the number of ounces of water per day that you need to drink. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, you should drink at least 80 ounces of water per day. If you exercise you should drink another 8 ounce glass of water for every 20 minutes you are active.

18 Jaundice Bilirubin is produced by the breakdown of red blood cells. Normally bilirubin passes through the liver. Jaundice occurs when bilirubin builds up faster than a newborn's liver can break it down and pass it from the body. Phototherapy is a treatment with a special light that helps rid the body of the bilirubin by altering it or making it easier for the liver to get rid of it.
