COMMUNICATION FOR TECHNICIANS UNIT NUMBER: 16 PRODUCE AN ENGINEERING DRAWING ON A PRO-FORMA HAND OUT 4
3
Hand Out 4 Prepared by: G.A.Smillie Date: NEXT 1 Interpret and use basic engineering drawings and sketches to communicate technical information. 4 Use information and communication technology in engineering applications. LEARNING OUTCOME Slide 1a Communication for Technicians Unit: 16

NEXT Slide 1b Communication for Technicians Unit: 16 GRADING CRITERIA P1 Interpret simple engineering drawings/circuit diagrams and sketches. P2 Produce simple engineering drawings/diagrams and sketches. P3 Identify and use appropriate standards, symbols and conventions in the production of engineering drawings. M3 Present information concisely and coherently to standards used in industry Hand Out 4 Prepared by: G.A.Smillie Date:

By the end of the session you will be able to: produce a drawing pro-forma; use Electronic Workbench to produce a circuit diagram; simulate the circuit to obtain an oscilloscope display. draw the circuit diagram onto the pro-forma; Copy the oscilloscope display onto the pro-forma continue to build up your portfolio of work. NEXT A pro-forma is the basic layout for any engineering or civil drawing. The pro-forma contains boxes in which information such as the following is inserted: Notes on Product Company Name Draughts man name Product name Date of issue and drawing number Parts list and any other necessary information Drawing revisions. NEXT Slide 3b Communication for Technicians Unit: 16 ENGINEERING DRAWING Exercise: Copy the circuit and past it into the pro-forma. Copy the Oscilloscope display and past it in the Drawing Details box. Insert a component list in the Drawing Details box. Determine the function of the circuit and fill in the circuit name. Fill in the company name or institution name. In the Drawing Revisions box there should be the word ‘None’ as this is the first time the drawing has been produced. Fill in your name and position. Fill in the date and the drawing number. Hand Out 4 Prepared by: G.A.Smillie Date:

NEXT Slide 3c Communication for Technicians Unit: 16 ENGINEERING DRAWING Exercise: The same convention should be used for all the boxes. For the name and position box the convention could be: Name: J.Everybody Position:Senior Engineer or Name- J.Everybody Position-Senior Engineer Show your lecturer a printout of the engineering drawing when you have finished.
