Can We Love Too Much? READ: Ephesians 5:22-33

The apostle Paul suggested that the primary responsibility for fostering love in the marriage is up to the husband. He must show his wife that he deserves her trust and devotion. No one wants to submit to a tyrant or be controlled by a dictator, Eph. 5 doesn’t ask a woman to do that.

In these verses the husband is told 3 times that his major task is to express Christlike love to his wife. A husband’s actions should be sincere and not mechanical. He should pattern his actions after Christ’s love for the Church, and then the wife can respond and fulfill her role in the marriage.

The word “love” in Eph.5:28 doesn’t refer merely to Romanic affection, but to the highest relationship possible. A wife should be more than a mere trophy hanging on his wall of fame. This relationship involves commitment, sacrifice, and even a willingness to die for the one loved.

How many broken hearts and homes would be prevented if men would begin to demonstrate Christlike love in the way they treat their wives. Remember: Wives are the responders.

We can never show too much of His kind of love! A successful marriage requires a falling in love many times…but always with the same person.

Can you honestly say you love your wife as much as Christ loves the Church? Every tender act of love expressed toward your partner is proper and spiritual.
