7 Today’s Agenda Course Outline explained o Looking specifically at assignments #1 and 2 Discussion about arts influences and attitudes that impact our lives o Examining stereotypes o Investigation of school influences that have impacted our journey Dance in-service

9 Brain break Many arts ed classes don’t need brain breaks because you are already active, but here’s a clapping exercise that is effective: o Mirror clapping o Add other movements for mirroring o Do mini movements

10 Background Who are our…. o Dancers? o Musicians? o Artists? o Actors? o Other art forms? o TAKE A MINUTE TO JOT DOWN SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT: What Arts experiences do schools face… o That are challenging? o That are inspiring? o That are stereotyping?

11 Dance In-service Will do a number of sample lessons and ‘snipets’ and ideas. You can share ideas in this time as well. Movement with young children. o Movements while still o Movements with movements o Mirroring

12 Outcome CP5.1 B Create dance compositions inspired by pop culture (e.g., street dances, current dance trends in music videos). A. Investigate potential sources of ideas for dance related to pop culture (e.g., current street dances, popular dances of different eras, TV dance competitions). B. Pose questions about pop culture to explore through a dance-making inquiry process (e.g., What popular dance movements, styles, and conventions could we include in our own dances?).

13 What are the most popular dance moves right now? In groups of 4/5 – take 2-3 minutes to pick one move that has 8 counts. o Don’t make it complex and something we can all do. o Can be 4 beats right and 4 beats left We’ll come back and put them together. Each group teaches us and we keep doing the moves adding on.

14 Don’t Stop Believing Add additional moves o Intro and filler o First verse – boy and girl parts (lyric interpretation) o Guitar solo o Don’t stop believing (lyric interpretation) Put it all together o 4 moves x 8 counts done twice – chorus o 4 moves x 8 counts done twice – verses o Add in lyric interpretation moves You Tube
