Sensor Mounting Options u DOT Supplied Signposts v Minimized shipping costs v Appears permanent, may deter theft/vandals v Stationary/stable v Requires commitment/effort from DOT u U of MN Supplied Tripods v Increases shipping costs (big,heavy, bulky) v Less than permanent, may attract thieves v Depending on ground conditions, stability might be an issue

System Power Options u Utility company power drop u Solar cells with battery storage u Generators running 24/7 u Intermittently running generators + battery storage

System Data Transfer u Wireless v Eliminates Ethernet cable laying on the ground v Bandwidth, range, reliability, local environmental effects u Wired v High reliability v Cabling, rodents, vandals, cost.

Laser Crossroad sensors u Pros v No need to get up high (no expensive, bulky masts, power line issues) v Lasers are less expensive than IR Cameras v Lasers are less sensitive to environmental conditions v Less data to store u Cons/Questions v Would states allow laser sensors in median? Place on breakaway mounts, located close to ground Possible (but unlikely) obstruction of sight lines in median.
