Specialised psychiatric care 2013 Altogether 26 561 patients were treated in specialised psychiatric care in 2013, and they had over 38 000 periods of inpatient care. There were more than 1.8 million visits in psychiatric outpatient care and a total of 159 131 patients. The number of care days in specialised psychiatric inpatient care has decreased by 29 per cent and the number of care periods by 20 per cent since 2006. Men and women were equally represented among the patients overall, although there were variations in gender distribution by age. Altogether 8 033 care days included involuntary care in 2013. Patients admitted on the basis of a referral to involuntary care (M1 referral) amounted to 8 339 in 2011, which is 29 per cent of all patients.
