UNIT A: Studying Materials Scientifically Enduring Understandings Safe living involves the development and use of safety precautions and the recognition of risk when making decisions. Scientists use appropriate tools and techniques to gather, analyze and interpret data. Measurements and mathematics are important in all aspects of scientific inquiry. Making decisions often involves trade-offs, that is, giving up one thing to gain another.

Homework Hand in… Letter to parents and Information Card Homework 1.Number all the pages of the composition notebook (journal) and bring it to the following class. 2.Search for a science fair project.

Objective Students will be able to: –Identify the units and activities that will be developed in 8 th grade science.

Purpose Students will be able to: –Become familiar with the curriculum and how to use the book effectively when working in science.

Book Assignment Once you get your book: 1.Review its condition, pages and content (brand new!) 2.Write your name on the inside cover under “”Issued to”. 3.You are responsible for the book during the entire year. You must pay for any lost or damaged book. A cover is recommended. 5. You must bring the book, along with the journal, to class everyday.

Work in teams to complete the “Scavenger Hunt” Use loose leaf paper to complete your answers The team that answers all the questions correctly will receive “Husky Tickets” and an “A”.
