4 Full-Time Field Experience Grading

5 Field Experience Grades 5-Day Unit Plan (375 Points Possible) Professionalism (rated on CPI and Observations) Reflective Journal (40 Points Possible) 4 Observation Summaries (2 by supervisor, 2 by collaborating teacher) (0 Points Possible/cannot have any overall UNSATISFACTORY scores)

6 Evaluation Summary Sheet DescriptionPoints Earned I. Five Day Integrated Unit (375 Points Maximum) (from Five-Day Integrated Unit Scoring Sheet) II. Four Lesson Observations (0 points maximum) The student may not have any overall “unsatisfactory” ratings in the 3 outcomes (2 to be completed by university supervisor, 2 to be completed by collaborating teacher) NO POINTS III. Reflective Journal (S+, S, U) (40 points maximum)  S+ (30 – 40 points) Journal is complete; shows strong evidence of in-depth reflection; discusses personal connections  S (15-29 points) Journal lacks some entries; shows satisfactory attempts at in-depth reflection; few personal connections discussed  U (0-14 points) Journal contains few entries or journal not turned in; reflection is weak; makes no personal connections (Journal not turned in receives 0 points) IV. Professionalism (Refer to the Dispositions Checklist on the ECE website) The Dispositions are scored by the supervisor as L1-L5. Any ONE area that receives a score of L1 or L2 WILL be cause for remediation, repeating or removal from TOSS (action to be determined by the Academic Standing Committee)  Attendance –No more than 2 excused absences. Every absence must be made up.  Punctuality- Be in the classroom for the teacher hours, more than two is cause for rating an L2.  Takes Responsibility for Own Actions- Does not place blame on others.  Decision Making- Assumes professional responsibility through appropriate decision making.  Accepts Constructive Criticism/Feedback- Offers positive alternatives to suggestions. Seeks feedback from peers and other professionals.  Takes Initiative- Demonstrates leadership ability. Doesn’t wait to be told what to do.  Ability to Work Well With Others- Collaborative comments expressed about peers and supervising team. Performs equal share of collaborative work.  Manner of Dress- Acceptable and appropriate for the school environment.  Oral Communication- Uses and models correct grammar and diction in spoken language. Uses correct grammar and spelling in written work.  Written Communication-Uses correct grammar and spelling in written work. TOTAL POINTS (ADD I,II,III,IV ABOVE) FINAL GRADE FOR FULL TIME TOSS (415 points possible: 292 points to 415 points = S, 291 and below points = U)

9 Lesson Observations Observation Summary form – You may access this online at the TOSS website. Please give a copy to your CT and forward them the link. – These will be completed online. 2 observations by your KSU Supervisor 2 observations by your Cooperating Teacher A fifth observation is an option when needed.

10 Reflective Journal Ongoing, weekly reflections about the experience Must be sent to your supervisor by the end of the week and your supervisor will respond to you by Monday. Specific requirements will be discussed by your supervisor Reflections must include a classroom management component

11 Reflective Journal Classroom Management Component – What strategies are employed by the cooperating teacher or others in the school? – Are these strategies effective? Why or why not? – How do the strategies connect to your EECE classes in relation to what you learned about classroom management?

12 Reflective Journal Management Portion – continued – What are your thoughts on the system? How would you change it if at all? Will this system work for you? – Are there any students for which the system is ineffective? If so, why? How would you deal with this student (or these students?) – Is there evidence of management strategies designed into the planning? If so, what are the strategies? If not, what could be done?

13 Reflective Journal Classroom Management Portion Continued – What are your own experiences with classroom management while you are in the field? – FINAL REFLECTION/Classroom Management paper Consider your own views on, and plans for classroom management. Write a preliminary philosophy of classroom management statement. – What strategies will you use to maintain a well managed classroom?

14 PROFESSIONALISM Professionalism (Dispositions Sheet) L1, L2 may result in repetition, remediation, or removal of ECE 4406. Hours of Attendance: Teacher hours Please inform your CT, school, and Toss supervisor of any absences ahead of time. Professional dress is required. Think of it as a job interview each time you walk in that building.

15 Impact on Student Learning Create a pre/post test for your unit and analyze the data. You may want to use a pre/post test for the entire unit for your data or you may cover one content area. Find the mean, median, mode and range of the data (instructions will be sent later). Compare the whole group, two small groups, and compare two individuals

16 Chalk and Wire or Online Portfolio, Portfolio Narrative Outcome 1: FOUR pieces of evidence for each proficiency Outcome 2: FOUR pieces of evidence for each proficiency Outcome 3: TWO pieces of evidence for each proficiency Talk to your supervisor about what can be used as evidence!

18 TOSS Final Checklist Continued PORTFOLIO NARRATIVE AND EVIDENCE (Chalk and Wire) 30 points – Four (4) pieces of evidence per disposition 1 and 2 – Two (2) pieces of evidence for disposition 3 – Evidence can be used more than once – One longer narrative or three shorter narratives – Chalk and Wire REFLECTIVE JOURNAL 40 points – To include classroom management portions – To be submitted according to supervisor requests

21 Student Teaching Announcements The MANDATORY spring student teaching meeting is Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 1:00-3:00PM You will begin in the field for student teaching on January 9, 2013. CEPP can no longer change your placement. Requests have been sent out to the schools asking them to accept you for student teaching.

22 Announcements for Supervisors 1.Fine Arts component 2.Point values have changed 3.The notebook should be all electronic 4.Law and Ethics Seminar – this is online on the TOSS website. Please watch the video, then complete the quiz. Please give your confirmation page to your supervisor. This is due by November 5. IT IS REQUIRED! 5.Record the survey on the EECE website today in the computer lab KC 236!
