University of Maribor Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science AST ’04, July 7-9, 2004 2 Introduction Provide the language resources (LR) for improving speech-to-speech translation components: –speech synthesis –speech recognition –speech centred translation Developed LR should be comparable with similar language resources for other languages - standards. Ensure the quality of developed LR.

University of Maribor Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science AST ’04, July 7-9, 2004 3 LC-STAR lexica Big lexica for improving speech recognition and speech synthesis: –65.000 common words –45.000 proper names –6.000 special application words Translation lexica for improving speech centred translation for tourist domain: –10.000 phrasals translated from US-English reference list All lexica is to be morpho-syntactically tagged and phonetically transcribed with SAMPA symbols. Quality is ensured by manual checkings and validation done by SPEX and CST.

University of Maribor Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science AST ’04, July 7-9, 2004 4 Conversations in tourist domain Speech database of telephone conversations in tourist domain is being recorded in cooperation with tourist companies: –tourist agencies (Sonček, Kompas, Neckermann Reisen, Aritours) –hotels (Hotel Habakuk, Hotel Piramida) –tourist office (MATIC) The tourist agent is professional, having conversations in his office. The callers are mostly employees and students of University of Maribor, calling through system which records the conversations. Numbers: 77 conversations recorded by the June 30 th 41 callers, 42 participating tourist agents Conversations will be orthographically transcribed –> spoken corpus.
