6. Panfilo de Narvaez 1528 Source  He arrived near Tampa Bay  Searching for Gold  Left his ships to start his expedition  Never finds his ships  Drowned with many of his men trying to sail to Mexico.

7. Hernando de Soto 1539  He arrived near Tampa Bay  Originally planned to build a settlement  Searched for Gold  Killed, kidnapped and enslaved the Timucua and Apalachee Indians.  Died while looking for gold. Source
