The Judgment of Nations Jesus utilizes a story to help teach us the pathway to heaven. Jesus gives us the image of a shepherd separating the sheep from the goats to warn us that the judgment will be final and permanent.
3
The Judgment of Nations The lesson of the story is simple: how we treat the least of our brothers/sisters is is the same as treating Christ himself. The teaching from this story helps us to focus on the importance of the Corporal Works of Mercy.
4
The Corporal Works of Mercy To feed the hungry. To give drink to the thirsty. To clothe the naked. To welcome strangers. To visit the sick. To visit the imprisoned. To bury the dead.
5
The Spiritual Works of Mercy To instruct the ignorant. To counsel the doubtful. To admonish sinners. To bear wrongs patiently. To forgive offenses willingly. To comfort the afflicted. To pray for the living and the dead.
6
The Call to Holiness Our holiness at birth is corrupted by Original Sin. Through Baptism, all Christians are consecrated to God and thereby called to a life of holiness. This includes everyone: priests, deacons, nuns, and all lay people.
7
The Call to Holiness Christ leaves us the gift of the Church, which is God’s greatest gift to help us live a holy life. Together, as the Body of Christ, we give strength, hope, and support to one another to live a holy life.
8
The Call to Holiness The call to holiness takes into account our need to serve and sacrifice for those most in need as well as the poor and vulnerable. The Catechism states that the way of perfection passes by the Cross; however, God is there to help us with his grace.
9
Grace Grace is God’s supernatural gift to help us respond to his love. Restores us to original holiness and justice. Assists us to live holy lives.
