Mixed Numbers vs. Improper Fractions
When you convert or change an improper fraction to a mixed number or a mixed number to an improper fraction, the values of each are still the same. Look at how this improper fraction and mixed number represent the same amount. 3 7 2 means we have seven ½ pieces 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 means we have 3 wholes and another ½. 1 2 1 2 1 1 1

Converting Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions
Multiply the denominator of the fraction by the whole number. Add the numerator to the product. Put that sum over the original denominator.
