UNIT 7 The Earth’s dynamics Natural Science 2. Secondary Education VOLCANIC MATERIALS

UNIDAD 3 UNIT 7 Volcanic materials Natural Science 2. Secondary Education When volcanoes erupt, they can release three types of materials: PyroclastsLava Volcanic gases Click on each type of material to find out more.

UNIDAD 3 UNIT 7 Volcanic materials Natural Science 2. Secondary Education Pyroclasts These are solid materials like: Lapilli. These form in the same way as volcanic bombs but are smaller in size. Volcanic bombs. Large blocks of molten material that solidify before they reach the ground. Volcanic ash. Very fine particles that a volcano expels high into the air. Volcanic bombs Go back to the Start menu Lapilli

UNIDAD 3 UNIT 7 Volcanic materials Natural Science 2. Secondary Education Lava Lava is liquid. It forms when magma reaches the Earth’s surface. Lava runs downhill in flows until it solidifies, creating volcanic rock. Go back to the Start menu

UNIDAD 3 UNIT 7 Volcanic materials Natural Science 2. Secondary Education Volcanic gases These are volcanic materials in gas form. When magma reaches the surface, it releases all of the gases it contains. The gases are blasted through the crater. The main gases released by volcanoes are water vapour, carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide. A volcano expelling ash and gases. Go back to the Start menu
