1) Create a circle graph to show and analyze the way you spend your time over a 24 hour period. Collect real data on yourself, showing how you spent your time and include your data chart with your graph. For your analysis, share what percentage of time you spent eating, sleeping, learning, playing, relaxing, doing homework, playing sports, dealing with hygiene, etc. Make recommendations for how you might spend your time more wisely. 2) What number does n represent? 42 x 25 = 21 x n a)Explain your reasoning for the math you chose to do to solve this problem and show the math calculations you used to solve the open sentence. b)Think of a way you can prove your answer is correct. Explain your reasoning and show the math calculations you used to check your answer. 3) Using digits 1 through 7, find the number: ___ ___ ___. ___ ___ ___ a) Find the square root of 9 and place it in the hundreds place b) Find the number of inches in 1/6 of a yard and place it in the hundredths place c) Find 1/2 of the number of sides on a quadrilateral and place it in the tens place d) Complete the whole number digits with 3 consecutive digits in descending order e) Complete the fractional part so it is slightly less than 4/5. After you find the number: a) Build a new number that is closest to 800 using these 6 digits. Explain your reasoning. 4) Solve the problem using a math model that you explain. Friends are making cookies for the bake sale. They baked 3/5 of their cookies on Monday. They baked 2 dozen on Tuesday. If they still have 1/3 of their cookies left to bake, how many cookies are they planning to bake in all? 5) Complete IXL for 20 minutes, doing an activity recommended for Unit 2 noted on the teacher blog or a higher, more challenging leveled activity. Parent signature: ___________ The activity(ies) I did were: Grade ____ Activity _________ 6) Write a children’s picture book about a ball that rolls a total of 20 full circles (360˚ x 20). In the story, you must vary the degrees the ball rolls (i.e., if it rolls 45˚ one time it would have to roll different degrees next time). The ball can roll a total of 7 times. Figure out how far you want the ball to roll each time in your story so it ends with a total that equals 20 full circles. Make the story engaging to children! Have fun! 7) Calculate 7.3 x 0.52. Make sure you include an estimate, a magnitude estimate and the answer. You need to explain why you have chosen those numbers for your estimate. 8)1/2 x 3/4 = p Solve the equation two ways (possibly as a decimal number too) to prove your answer is correct. In one of the ways, you must create a math model to represent your work. Explain your math model. 9) Study Links and Math Journal ______ 3.1 Study Links ______ 3.2 Study Links(Need Student Text Book) ______ 3.3 Study Links ______Math Journal Pg. 64, Addition and Subtraction Number Stories with Open Sentences Name _________________ Tic-Tac-Toe Homework for the week of October 7, 2013 --DUE FRIDAY

Tic-Tac-Toe Menu Directions Choose activities in a tic-tac-toe design. When you have completed three activities, you may decide to be finished. Or you may decide to keep going and complete more activities. I choose activities # ________, # __________, # __________, Additionally, I choose activities # __________, # __________, # __________, # __________ Do you have an idea for alternate activities you’d like to do instead for practice? Talk them over with your teacher. I prefer to do the following alternate activities: ___________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ Reflection on Homework Choices (tell what you liked, what was challenging, why you made the choices you made, what you learned, etc.) __________________________________________________________________________________ Student Name: _________________________________________ Date: ______________________ PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ATTACHED ALL THE WORK YOU HAVE COMPLETED. IF IT IS A TECHNOLOGY ACTIVITY, MAKE SURE THAT YOUR PARENTS HAVE SIGNED THEIR NAME ON THAT BOX TO CONFIRM THAT YOU DID THE PRACTICE ACTIVITY FOR THE ALLOTTED TIME. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS TO LEARN AND BECOME A BETTER MATHEMATICIAN.
