3 DRIVING QUESTION How can we, as physicist, create a Safe Speed limit proposal to submit to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration?

4 MISSION Your mission is to create a “Safe Speed Limit Proposal.” that tells the NHTSA what the maximum speed limit should be on major highways. Your proposal should be supported by scientific principles. Newton’s 3 laws of motion Speed, Velocity, & Acceleration Balanced & Unbalanced forces. You will submit your proposal to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You will also create a keynote, power point or video presentation to present your findings. It must include the following: Key points from proposal Graphs illustrating speed, velocity and acceleration. Animations or video clips demonstrating Newton’s Laws of Motion.

5 GUIDING QUESTIONS How do interacting forces affect the speed of an object’s motion? How do interacting forces affect the direction of an object’s motion? How do different forces change and object's motion? How can one differentiate between speed, velocity and acceleration on a graph? How can one determine speed or velocity of an object given distance and time? How are speed, velocity, and acceleration represented on a distance vs.time graph? What is the difference between speed, velocity, and acceleration? How does the mass of a body at rest affect its tendency to remain at rest? How does the force required to move an object change with mass? How does the force acting on an object affect its tendency to remain at rest?
