Literary Terms: Dramatic Irony When a character/audience member knows information characters in the play are unaware of. Examples: We know Romeo is trying to keep the peace with Tybalt because he is his relative through his marriage to Juliet. We know Juliet can’t marry Paris because she is already married to Romeo.

Identify examples of more difficulties that have been added to the conflict: -Tybalt kills Mercutio -Romeo kills Tybalt -Both Romeo and Juliet suggest killing themselves rather than dealing with their current sorrows. -The Prince sentences Romeo to be banished to Mantua -Lord Capulet wants Juliet to marry Paris in a few days -Lady Capulet intends to send a messenger to poison Romeo in Mantua -Lord Capulet threatens to disown Juliet if she disobeys and doesn’t act more grateful about marrying Paris -Juliet is angry at the nurse for suggesting she forget Romeo and marry Paris.
