8. You will soon be starting middle school! Elkhorn Middle School is a special place! You will have many opportunities to meet new friends, learn new things, and think about your future. There are more choices and more independence in middle school.

9. You will go to a different classroom for each subject. EMS has a 7 period day. You will have 6 teachers and a grade level Advisory teacher (homeroom).

10. Advisory Time – What is this?? Advisory Time is time to set goals, and learn character Education. Advisory Time is in the morning from 8:40-9:10 Advisory Time is time enjoyed by both students and teachers!

12. Now Let’s Talk About your Classes! You will have freedom to move from classroom during class changes. You will have 2 minutes between classes for classes in the 6 th grade hall You will have 4 minutes between classes for Exploratory classes. YOU WILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO GET WHERE YOU NEED TO GO!

14. Exploratory Classes Ensure that you are a well rounded student Help prepare you for life in the 21 st century Expose you to things that you may never experience

15. How do I know what Exploratory classes I will get? The other class in your Exploratory schedule will be randomly generated for you by Infinite Campus. Be Patient! You may not get PE, Visual Arts, technology, Business and Careers, or Practical Living this Semester, but you will at some point. If you decide to take Band or Choir, you will have that class for at least one period each day of the week.

16. Academic Goals Goals are set each Monday or the first school day of the week Goals are set during Advisory class Goals will be checked each week to see how you have progressed in reaching them All goals will be SMART Goals S pecific M easurable A ction-Oriented R ealistic T imely

17. Physical Activity We encourage students here at EMS to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. You will set a physical Activity goal each week in Advisory Class Being physically active does not mean you have to “play” a Sport. 60 minutes of physical activity each day doesn’t just improve my health, it makes me a better student
