Drill # 139/11/2014 Write drill # 13 and the date in your notebook Copy the questions (they are on the right side of the board) Answer 7 minutes, everyone is quiet and in her/his seat

Topic: Factor-Label Method Practice Objective: Students will be able to Apply the factor-label method to change units of measurement HW #10: Get worksheet
4
Equivalence statements English-MetricMetric-Metric 1 inch = 2.5 cm 1 lb = 0.45 kg 1 mile = 1600 m 1 m = 100 cm 1 m = 1000 mm 1 m = 1000 000 μm 1 cm = 10 mm 1 km = 1000 m 1 L = 1000 mL 1 kg = 1000 g
5
Factor-labels Make a fraction from the equivalence statement One side goes on top of the other There are two factor-labels for each equivalence statement Both equal 1 (one as the number) Example: 1 inch or 2.5 cm 2.5 cm 1 inch
6
Change the unit Multiply the quantity you know by one of the factor-labels Which one? The one that will help you cancel the unit you are trying to get rid of example 30 inches to cm 30inch x 2.5cm / 1inch 30 x 2.5 /1 cm = 75 cm
7
Guided Practice – 5 problems 20 minutes, timed Work with your group Use inside voices Be nice Ask your teammates for help Use a calculator Solve the problem on the right screen together Everyone writes on her/his own paper Team recorder writes the complete solution on your white board Hold up your board when time is called Make corrections if needed Make sure that everyone in the group understands how to do the problems
8
Individual Practice-Work quietly for 20 minutes on your own Read “Time and Length” section (3-page packet Do not write on the handout (I have to use it again today) Take Cornell notes on your own paper Read one paragraph at a time Write the main idea Include 1-2 details Move to the next paragraph
9
Factor- label Is same as conversion factor
10
Did we achieve objectives? Objective: Students will be able to Apply the factor-label method to change units of measurement
11
What’s for HW You get a second chance to complete the HW from yesterday for full credit Quiz tomorrow Units of measurement Factor-label conversions
12
Exit Ticket ID#, in your seat, and quiet Questions: 1. Convert 75 m to km. Show the factor labels! 2. Convert 48 km to m. Show the factor labels!
