1. PIMS Refresher PIMS is: Implementation began in 2006 with PAsecureID
PDE’s student-level information system designed to improve student achievement through more efficient and effective use of data
Enterprise-wide data collection, data warehouse and reporting
Primary goal of PIMS is to enable the improvement of educational achievement for all PA students.
Implementation began in 2006 with PAsecureID
ID assigned to 1.8M PreK-12 public school students in 733 LEAs
First step towards longitudinal student data
First Year of PIMS includes implementation of:
Automated and secure data collection from LEAs
Data warehouse – eScholar Complete Data Warehouse
Reporting and analysis tools - Cognos

10. Future Scope of PIMS
PIMS Steering Committee finalizing the plan for Years 2 and 3
Potential scope areas include:
Additional data (e.g. assessment, safe schools, migrant, special education)
New sectors (e.g. post-secondary)
New features and functionality
Expansion of reporting and analysis tools to PDE and LEA users
Note on Scope: Pre-K -12 data is currently in the scope for years 2 and 3. These students have PAsecureID’s in the LEA systems.
With that said, the vision of PIMS would be to incorporate OCDEL and Higher Education student-level information into PIMS. It is feasible to begin planning to bring in OCDEL and Higher Ed at this time.
Note on scope areas: The following systems may be loaded into PIMS from existing systems: Safe Schools, Special Ed, Migrant, Assessment, CATS
