Appoquinimink Priorities Support our most successful students through increased accelerated opportunities Improve teaching and learning outcomes for elementary special education students Support the transition of students new to the Appoquinimink School District

Increased Learning Opportunities for Accelerated students Increase connections with higher education/college offerings during the student school day Dual credit course for World History and English Implement SpringBoard AP Primer in middle school enrichment period for accelerated learners Students identified as 96%ile and above are using the program 6 th graders use the 7 th grade material, 7 th use the 8 th and so on Implement Engineering is Elementary during RtI for accelerated learners Three kit rotations per year Includes science, math, language arts, technology and culture

Accelerated students continued Provide a ladder experience for 5 th -9 th grade for immersion in college related activities 5 th grade career fairs planned for each building Middle school visits to UD 8 th grade March 15 th College Night at DE State High school trips to UD nursing lab

Improve Learning Outcomes for Special Education Students Provide professional development for special education inclusion pairs: Systematic problem solving method Hired Stetson Associates to provide training in _____ schools Special education specialist provides on-going training for inclusion teams Learning Focused Strategies All 1-12 staff have been trained in three modules K staff have been trained in first module Walkthroughs have monitored implementation Collaborative teaming

Special Education continued Incorporate lesson demonstration in the interview process for teachers seeking special education positions. This has been added to the process for hiring special education staff Lesson plan submission has been included for all applicants; lesson demonstration is optional Implement a three-year agreement with teachers of special needs students. New special education staff sign an agreement when they meet with human resources

Support the Transition of Students New to the Appoquinimink School District Implement a New Student Monitoring program Program is in place and is monitored at least two times per year Use state data coaches to facilitate collaborative time Data coaches provide direct support in 6 schools Coach the coach/turnkey training is happening in 8 schools Implement CCSS and common assessments measuring progress toward standards Units are completed for high school Units 1-4 have been developed in elementary and middle school Remaining units to be completed over the next month

Overarching Strategies Conduct focused walkthroughs to monitor CCSS and LFS implementation Rubric was developed with administrators to complete walkthrough process and provide feedback to schools To date over 750 classrooms have been visited Visits occur monthly Develop teacher leader program focusing on coaching and mentoring for improved student achievement DDOE to provide us with how this is working in other district Met with AEA to discuss and will be putting together committee to work on this initiative

Other activities within plan Conduct Comprehensive Site Reviews in each school on a three year cycle Five schools this year AECC, MMS, AGW are completed MHS and BHE over the next two months Team consists of district staff, DDOE, DASL, and other DE district staff
