1. This is a whip. They used to hit slaves with this when they would disobey them in one way or another.

2. This is a house where slaves lived. It still exists on Goree Island.

3. Slavery was unfair. People owned other people as if they were animals or objects. Some children are even slaves. They were sold at auctions and were slaves for another owner. Fortunately, America passed the 13 th amendment that abolished slavery on December 6 th, 1865. No more slavery!

5. Passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified on December 6, 1865. "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.". For a long time, not many people in Britain knew and understood the evils of the Slave Trade. Those who did, and campaigned against it, faced abuse and occasionally even violence. They eventually formed a fellowship to abolish the trade.”
