2. Transnational Corporations TNCs often have their headquarters in an MEDC (Nike’s is in Oregon, USA), and have a number of factories and outlets around the world. They utilise cheap labour in LEDCs and NICs (Newly Industrialising Countries) especially in SE Asia.

3. NIKE – Just do it! In 1964 Phillip Knight (athlete turned business man) came up with the idea of importing training shoes from Japan. Labour was cheap there in the 1960s. Today Nike is the largest seller of sports footwear, clothing and accessories in the world. It operates in 140 countries. A lot of clothing is made in the USA but nearly all of its trainers are made elsewhere by several hundred thousand workers in SE Asia.
