Introduction Plethora of plug-in external modules or engines, including graphics systems, physics systems, artificial intelligences, mathematical systems, and audio systems. Unity’s inbuilt systems for movement, Navigation Meshes and NavMeshes, are grid-like systems sit over the top of existing terrain and game maps. These systems procedurally generate content. Extending these ideas to manipulate the physical game environment at runtime, makes a game build and extend on itself. Extends gameplay and the size of a game level without the need for gigantic game maps. @ 2015 Taylor & Francis. All rights Reserved. 2

Summary Learning from the Masters: Part Two The use of the physics engine, procedural algorithms, and artificial intelligence for creating dynamic behavior within the game environment and in characters. The functionality of the game engine isn’t just there to carry out precise commands. Interesting, challenging, and engaging game mechanics can result from letting the code do it for you. @ 2015 Taylor & Francis. All rights Reserved. 8
