2 OBJECTIVES To enable participants to receive information about a variety of developments in ASD To encourage participants to offer views and experiences to inform future developments To provide social and networking opportunities

5 MONMOUTHSHIRE’S STORY… 2009 we were asked to: Appoint an ASD Lead Local ASD Action plan Base line survey Stakeholder Group Children and Young People Plan Health, Social Care and Well-being Strategy

6 What we have worked on… Local ASD Action Plan, 1. Support Families 2. Awareness Training 3. Improve Access to Services 4. Provide Information, Web Site and One Stop Shop Involved in 4 Gwent Projects 1. Assessment and Diagnostic Pathways 2. Gwent Adults Aspergers Group 3. Gwent Training Exchange 4. Transition Planning Work with SE Regional Partners Merthyr, RCT, Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Newport.

7 Level 1 – 10 days of Basic Training Level 2 – 2 days of Social Stories 2 days of Behaviour Management, 2 days of Intervention Strategies Level 3 – 3 days of Assessment/Diagnosis and Co-morbidity 3 TIER AWARENESS TRAINING

8 What’s next… Leisure Conference Autism Cymru - Emergency Card Scheme Trouble Shooting Workshops Information Website ASD Virtual Team, 18 Open University Places Business Plan for an ASD Resource Base

9 We have trained 3 professionals and 3 parent/carers to deliver a Help2 Managing Anger Course Help!2 Training Opportunity Managing Anger in young people with Asperger syndrome This is a practical seminar that focuses on communication strategies and dealing with difficult behaviour. It also looks at dealing with your son’s/daughter’s anger and some coping strategies. In this particular seminar we will not be covering physical interventions The seminar is specifically aimed at those parents/carers with children aged 8 – 16 years of age with a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or a child with an ASD who attends a mainstream school. Monmouthshire County Council will be running a free Help!2 training programme over 2 days later in the year (dates to be confirmed).
