Model answer: a)Pesticide is sprayed onto crops, each insect eats some of the crop, so has eaten some pesticide. One small bird eats thousands of insects, therefore has eaten lots of pesticide. A predator like the hawk will eat hundreds of small birds. Each small bird has a lot of pesticide in it, so the hawk now has a very large dose of pesticide. b)The amount of pesticide taken in by organisms as you move along the food chain will increase. Question 2 a)Total 4 marks: 3 for correct reasoning 1 for use of full sentence b) Total 2 marks: 1 for correct answer 1 for full sentence

Question 3 Uses include: -Stops insects eating crops. -Farmers can produce more crops, therefore more food. -People do not have to get rid of pests by hand. Dangers include: -Pesticides can be dangerous to consumers higher up the food chain. -Pesticides can be harmful to the environment. Total 10 marks: 3 marks for clearly laid out and easy to read posters 7 marks for arguments: interesting and correct points made and evidence of further research.
