In 1587 a ship with a number of English men, women, and children saw an island when they landed they began building houses. This was on Roanoke Island off the coast of what is now the state of North Carolina.

On August 18, 1587 a baby girl named Virginia Dare was born she was the first English child born in America.

When the colony was settled John White said, “I will go back to England for supplies.”

It was a long trip back because England was busy with the war when John White got to England, but there wasn’t any ship to take him back.

John White was worried about the colonists at Roanoke Island he wondered if they had enough food or something happened to them with the Indians.

On August 18, 1590, John White saw the ship on the sea coming towards the island when the ship docked, he went straight to Virginia.

When he finally made it to the harbor he wondered why no one greeted him.

He looked all over the island to see they left any word of where they gone finally he saw the words Croatoan on a tree.

The Croatoans were Indians on the island John White went to talk to the Indians but they would tell him nothing.

Some people think the colonist went to Chesapeake bay. But my theory is the Indians attack the colonist and hid their bodies somewhere. Because the Indians probably were mad that the colonist took some of their land.
