2. What is it? Method that helps increase your comprehension and reading speed by reducing the time it takes to extract meaning from what your reading.

4. Increasing P reparation You should not start reading right from the start. No preparation leads to misunderstanding and rereading. Read captions, headings, subheadings, and portions of paragraphs.

5. Example Before reading, English Historian Edward Gibbon would take a long walk alone to recall everything he new on the subject he was about to read.

6. Determining your A ltitude When reading, you want to gauge at how much attention to detail you should put into your reading. When you know how much detail, you can then find your qeustions

7. Examples 35,000 foot view- skimming over reading to get the big picture Skim the treetops-if your looking for answers, you skim for clues on the questions Skim at ground level- When looking for specific information, focus on individual words

8. Reading in C lusters Do not read word by word Try clustering words into larger groups when reading You will read faster Understand a phrase at a time or paragraph at a time.

9. Example Expand to paragraph size by condensing the paragraph you just read into a single sentence Understand what the topic, supporting, and concluding sentence are and you will be able to create your single sentence.

10. Drawing on E xperience Throughout your life you are learning valuable information When reading difficult information, you can draw back on vocabulary you have learned to increase your comprehension and speed.
