Polynomial Definition O A Polynomial in x is an expression of the form O n is not negative integer O n is called the degree O All the a’s are the coefficients O A n is the leading coefficient. O Having the exponents descending is putting it in standard form.

P(x) = 7x 3 +5x 2 -2 O What is the degree? O3O3 O What is the leading coefficient? O7O7 O What is a 3 ? O7O7 O What is a 0 ? O -2 O What is a 1 ? O0O0
4
How do you find the degree if there is more than one variable? O Ex: X 2 y 3 – 3y 3 + 2x 2 – 6 O Ex: x 3 + x 2 y 2 + y 5 O The degree is the largest sum of the exponents of the variables in any term. O In the two examples above they both have a degree of 5.
5
Polynomial Classifications O Monomial – 1 term O Ex: 3x O Binomial – 2 terms O Ex: 3x + 1 O Trinomial – 3 Terms O Ex: 3x 2 + 2x + 1 O Polynomial – Anything greater than 3
6
A cube has a side length of a + b O Find the surface area
7
A cube has a side length of a + b O Find the volume

Suppose you earn ½% interest compounded each month, paid at the end of the month. If you deposit $100 on Jan 1 st, $150 on Feb 1 st, and $125 on Mar 1 st, and nothing else for the rest of the year, how much will be in your account on Jan 1 st the next year?
