2
Delaware is fortunate enough to have one stop shopping for the delivery of criminal justice information. This is accomplished through an agency known as DELJIS
3
What is DELJIS? It is a independent agency Statutorily created with a clear and concise mission
4
DELJIS MISSION is very simple and complex….. Recognizing the benefits of an integrated information management system, DELJIS, comprised of all its representative agencies, commits to provide integrated components, along with information services and standards, whenever new or enhanced information systems, using shared information, are proposed or created.
5
How does it work? One standard reporting tool know as LEISS All agencies statewide use the same report forms and data collection guidelines All agencies work in a partnership And the tools are FREE!
6
So how do we share data? The “old way” The “old way” The “new way” The “new way”
7
www.generalwww.generalcomics.com You never want to be stuck in the old way of data exchanges.
8
Why keep the “Old Way”? Well there is the comfort factor If I show someone what I am doing they will take my job I do not have time to learn something new I am overworked The list of reasons does on and on....
9
Why use the “New Way”?
10
The “New Way” The technology is faster and easier More time to do your work Answer management questions faster and more accurately Give people a way to control their own destiny
11
ASSESS THE SITUATION Big picture of what agencies wanted from “their data” Needed something that would answer agencies long range questions Many smaller agencies were functioning on their own. Spending their limited revenue to create reports using outside vendors Need to review the overall results we want to achieve Needed the information “yesterday”
12
DESIGN REQUIREMENTS A system that was “EASY TO USE” No new warehouses - enhance the existing ones Leverage as much as possible from existing systems All data would be viewed only when approved Desk top accessible One Log-in Make training quick and painless
13
What was needed to accomplish this mission? SUPPORT from partner agencies.
14
AGENCY SUPPORTERS THE DELJIS BOARD OF MANAGERS ALL PARTNER CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES (police, correction, Dept. of Justice, Public Defender) ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS
15
What was Missing? NEEDED !!!!!!! NEEDED !!!!!!!!
16
How would we secure funding? Started looking for grant opportunities Talked with partner agencies Talked with elected officials and Budget Office Began selling the idea anytime we were given a chance
17
FUNDING We needed to demonstrate – –Good idea – –Show the benefits of the project – –Secure pride and ownership for all involved – –Deliver the product on-time and in-budget
